No More Waiting

This post is a bit different from previous ones. I alluded to it here. I begin part one of my story. It’s time. No more putting it off. I went to the orthopedic surgeon and said, “No more cortisone shots. I’m ready to get a knee replacement.” How many of you have been in the same situation? I am 64 years young but this bad knee is making me feel OLD! I am normally a very active person and not being able to do my regular activities (walking, yoga, golf) has brought me to this point.

I’m happy to say that in my community these types of surgeries are “normal.” We have a large over 50 population so maybe hospitals and doctors want to keep this in “the neighborhood” and not force people to seek medical care in a larger city. The second step, after the initial consult with my doctor, was to go to “joint camp.” Have you heard of this? I had not. There was a group of about eight of us in a room. A critical care nurse began the discussion by giving us a notebook with information about our surgeries (knee, shoulder, hip) and explained exercises we were to begin to prepare our bodies for rehab. Afterwards other important individuals involved in our care spoke to us one on one: the pharmacist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and anesthesiologist. I felt very included in my care!

The next step will be a Covid test, an EKG and bloodwork. I hope I pass all of these with flying colors!

I’m lucky that my husband will be taking a few days off to take care of me. My older brother had his knee surgery a few months ago and is doing well. He even offered to come up and take care of me. Awww! But I told him that I have great neighbors that would step in if Rick has gone back to work. And I have talked to SOOOO many people, men and women, who have had knee surgery and had very positive things to say about it. While there is some trepidation I know that this is the right decision for me.

I’d love your feedback! Have you had this surgery? What worked and didn’t work? Do you have words of encouragement for me?

Essential Oils: I still LOVE and will continue to promote Young Living Essential Oils! If you are new to essential oils, I highly recommend. And I think when you check out the number of companies that are out there you will agree that Young Living is really the best!

Brighten your day with Lemon Verbena! With an aroma that purifies your environment and invigorates your senses, it sends you to sunlit fields of lemon bliss. Renowned in the fragrance and tea industries, this fresh, uplifting, citrus-herbal aroma actually comes from a fragrant shrub, not a citrus fruit. Use this bright, zesty essential oil as a personal or home fragrance, to cleanse the skin and pamper it with antioxidants, or as a midday pick-me-up.
