It’s coming up on the end of the school year and motivation is in short supply! I think teachers are looking for ways to encourage students and keep them engaged so that they will finish strong (Allison still has to administer the TEKS tests! Who thought to schedule that this close to the END?!) At the college level, final exams are on the horizon. C’mon summer!
So when I mention motivation, we all have our Achilles’ heel. I hate to empty the dishwasher. Really. It’s probably my least favorite thing to do. I don’t know why, but if I had a stash of money I would hire someone to do it for me. Seriously! I mean, it’s right up there with other fun things to do, like washing a cat, or feeding a baby stewed prunes (yeah, only did that once). But I also hate a sink full of dirty dishes! Hmmm. The quandary. How about laundry? There may be people out there (yes, husbands/significant others) that LOVE to fold and put away laundry. Netflix and a basket of wrinkly clothes. Woo hoo! Not a hot button of mine either. But I also hate to reach into my drawers and not find any clean underwear (am I getting too personal?). So, another thing that must get done.
And last but certainly not least, is exercising. I don’t hate it, but I can’t say I love it either! It’s true about the endorphins thing:
According to Dr. Matthews, the rise in endorphins during exercise can be so powerful that studies have shown it can be just as effective as counseling or medication when it comes to lowering depression…Not only is the high real, but it will do your mind and body both a lot of good.
But that isn’t enough to make me do it. I do want to look better in my clothes (do I have some work to do!), but the number one reason I would have to say is my grandkids (I even put them before WINE!). I want to have a long life and be healthy so that I can enjoy them to the fullest. I am enjoying life right now and have every intention of working hard and playing even harder!
So my point is DO THE THINGS YOU DON’T WANT TO DO TO HAVE THE THINGS YOU WANT TO HAVE. Like a clean house, or folded clothes, or a sculpted body (haha! Just kidding there. I’ll settle for a little less jiggling). Do the thing that is going to get you to a goal, whatever it is! Me? I’m working for the next mimosa (I didn’t want you to think I’ve completely lost my mind!) Here’s to us!
Essential Oil: In light of doing what you don’t want to do, here is a recipe I found for workout pain relief cream:
1/4 c. coconut oil, 8 drops Panaway, 8 drops Copaiba. Combine in a 10 oz. glass roll-on and soothe your pain away!
